At your local bookstore (assuming it hasn't been boarded up yet) you'll find a giant stack of "Social Media" books in the biz section. Most of these books will have you frittering away the very prime of your business life liking, tweeting, and giving "fans" opportunities to "interact with your brand" and "build relationships" until the repo man takes your car and the sheriff evicts you from your house.

Having trained thousands of entrepreneurs and watched them build thriving businesses with ruthlessly practical advertising, I've got a different take on Social Media:

Social Media exists so other people can fritter away their lives gathering eyeballs for YOU to advertise to.

Social Media Jiu Jitsu is using your opponent's energy against him. You get to advertise to everyone else's fans and turn them into customers. Thank you so much, everyone, for gathering them together in one place.

Let's say you've got 5,000 fans. You post a status update. 2,000 of them see it. You just got 2,000 impressions. If you were buying ads instead of relying on status updates, that would cost you less than three bucks.

That's how much a status update is worth: About three bucks. Congratulations on your three bucks of free media exposure.

Are the people you want to reach on Facebook?

The answer is probably yes.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to funnel those people into your NON-Facebook sales track. Your Autoresponders and videos and all the rest.

That, my friend, is a highly oversimplified explanation of Facebook Firestorm. If you know the art of targeting hot buyers and if you know how to beat Facebook's cave-man ad interface into submission, there's plenty of 9 cent clicks to be had.
