Actor-comedian Jamie Kennedy ("The Jamie Kennedy Experiment") once said in an interview that he, "failed [his] way to the top". I love this quote because it shows his perseverance through hard times, something every small business and entrepreneur still in the game has been through. And there's no question that learning how to proceed and adjust through multiple setbacks imparts important lessons about yourself, your market and your business.
But sometimes the opposite can happen and it's possible to "pull a Homer Simpson" and succeed despite doing several things wrong.
While the success is enjoyable, this experience has the opposite effect of teaching the wrong lessons, i.e. that you can do things, or not know what you're doing right, and continue to enjoy success. If you've been through this you probably remember that the success is short-lived and in the end, instead of having learning something you're left hurt and wondering, "what happened?"
